I was raised in Sitka, Alaska from the time I was five. Living close to nature gave me a deep appreciation of the out-of-doors. My brothers and I were camping and hiking on our own before we were in middle school . As the years have gone on, I have hiked many miles, canoed well over 10,000 miles, and spent around a year sleeping on the ground.

Love of wilderness led me to photography in my early 20s. At first I wanted to take pictures so I would not forget. Later, as I got better at recording images, i wanted to share my experiences with others.

I am a teacher with about 40 years of experience. At one time or other I taught every grade from K-9. I started teaching in one of the few remaining one room/one teacher schools left in the US.  Through teaching, I discovered a new interest in photography... people. Starting with pictures of my children and students in my classroom, I expanded to portrait, sports, travel, events, and weddings.
