Canoeing and Paddling the Yukon and Teslin Rivers
Gary Bagley

Gary's family moved to Alaska when he was five. He grew up enjoying the out of doors. Hunting and fishing often fed the family. He began canoeing when a friend bought a large, heavy canoe from Herter's in the early 60s. He worked at many odd jobs while attending the University of Central Washington to earn a teaching degree. A notable college job was that of a "crab buffer". He taught kindergarten through ninth grade in a one-room, one-teacher school in a remote logging camp. While at the camp, he was asked to support a local club because active members were hard to find. The clubs available were AA and Boy Scouts. He chose the Boy Scouts. His association with Scouting led to many years of paddling and a deep love and appreciation of the Teslin and Yukon rivers.
Gary is an avid photographer and a collection of some of his photos can be found at the link below
Mike Morris

Mike grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. He was very active in Scouting. He attended and worked at Scout camps in the summer and became an Eagle Scout. After earning a teaching degree, he headed for a teaching career in the wilds of Alaska. There, he became Scoutmaster of a local Scout Troop. Between teaching upper-elementary grades, running a Scout troop, attaining an advanced degree, and raising a family, life was never boring. After retiring from teaching, Mike became active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He eventually attained the position of District Commodore for Alaska. He also took a job as a water safety instructor for AMSEA (Alaska Marine Safety Education Association). In that capacity, he travels around the state teaching classes on boat'n'float water safety.
Over the past 35 years, Mike and Gary have accumulated well over 12.000 miles on the rivers of the Yukon. They became friends because of a common interest in Scouting, teaching, and the outdoors. Over the years they have shared many days behind paddles, many nights on the ground, and so many adventures that they would fill a book . (coming soon - watch for it in a book store near you!)
