Canoeing and Paddling the Yukon and Teslin Rivers
Readings and songs that Yukon travelers have found meaningful
Please contact us and tell us which books, stories, poems, or pieces of music enriched your Teslin/Yukon experience. We will try to post many of them here. Thanks! GB & MM

"I found that reading Call of the Wild and Tales of the Klondike by Jack London, before going on the trip added extra interests, looking for places described in the books. I often think of the time when we saw "Sam McGee ashes" along the river and could connect it to the poems of Robert Service. Also, after the trip, I read "Journey" by James A. Michener, which made an impact on me." MK
As with most people, many books and songs have influenced my love of paddling and the Yukon. One lesser known short story is "The Big Trip" by Patrick F. McMannus found in A Fine and Pleasant Misery, meaningful to me because a wrong (or perhaps right) decision can turn your Yukon trip into "The Big Trip" if you are lucky. Also, Big Wicked Bill by Stuart Hamblen, an LP I had years ago, sparked my initial interest in the Yukon. It is a fanciful story but just the stuff to spark the imagination of a middle school boy. GB
